The role of task similarity for ego depletion: A registered report

چکیده

Ego depletion refers to decrements in self-control performance resulting from prior use of self-control. The ego effect has received much research attention, but the more recent literature reports small or null effects. This registered report examined moderating task similarity on effect. We predicted a crossover interaction between type primary and secondary such that engaging demanding should lead better when it is similar (facilitation effect) worse dissimilar (ego depletion). In preregistered pilot study, N = 80 participants first completed either visual stop-signal (SST) simple lexical categorization task. They proceeded with one four tasks classified as increasingly based their underlying operations executive functions: (1) auditory task, (2) Stroop (3) Eriksen flanker (4) unsolvable anagrams. Both study high-powered replication (N 300) revealed However, evidence for facilitation was stronger than tasks. Together, these findings highlight important role related phenomena.

No Evidence of the Ego-Depletion Effect across Task Characteristics and Individual Differences: A Pre-Registered Study

Ego-depletion, a psychological phenomenon in which participants are less able to engage in self-control after prior exertion of self-control, has become widely popular in the scientific community as well as in the media. However, considerable debate exists among researchers as to the nature of the ego-depletion effect, and growing evidence suggests the effect may not be as strong or robust as t...

Choice and ego-depletion: the moderating role of autonomy.

The self-regulatory strength model maintains that all acts of self-regulation, self-control, and choice result in a state of fatigue called ego-depletion. Self-determination theory differentiates between autonomous regulation and controlled regulation. Because making decisions represents one instance of self-regulation, the authors also differentiate between autonomous choice and controlled cho...

Ego-depletion 1 Ego-depletion: Theory and Evidence

Self-control all too often fails. Despite people‟s best intentions and considerable negative outcomes, people often find themselves at the losing end of resisting temptation, combating urges, and changing their behavior. One reason for these failures may be that exerting selfcontrol depletes a limited resource (ego-depletion) that is necessary for the success of selfcontrol. Hence, after exerti...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
